The city lived absorbed, focused on the pride of its old memories.
Society spent time locked up in their rooms,
watching those hated uniforms pass through the racks of their windows,
which reminded them of their friend or dead son.
Everything was gloomy and sad.
The ladies of distinction never left their homes except to go to the churches on Sundays,
almost covering their faces, as a protest against invaders.
They enter by our sea
with ships and no agree
with anger in their mind
like aggression from behind
To the treasures is the aim
they reclaim in this war game
And no one will be safe
from the anger of their strength
Soldiers brutalize
it shows them despise
A country agonise
from the night ‘till the sunrise
Can you see the mess,
the reapers and the thieves?
We can’t do anything
just to see our country leans
The books and reads are gone
now our culture walks alone
No theaters, no party
the occupation is done it
Remembering those who died
on these days we're passing by
and watching so frustrated
all the uniforms we hated

but I can see the fear in your eyes.
I know the enemy is too numerous,
and I know they have more weapons.
But I know that we are strong men,
for whom life is worth nothing in the face of indignity and slavery.
We live in the peaceful and joyous expanse of the valleys,
we love all people and do not crave the wealth of strangers.
But when unjust aggression threatens the integrity of our rights,
we rise to form a wall with our bodies at the gates of our beloved cities.
No matter how many we must fight,
no matter how many we must die,
if it's the price we have to pay, we'll pay it!
Fear is all that I can see,
In this wasteland by the sea,
My soldiers have their faith in me,

Otra vez es que ya no he rechazado esta solicitud antes?
Acaso no comprenden que está prohibido exhibir los símbolos patrios peruanos?
Lo sabemos general pero venimos a que nos brinde el permiso
Para bendecir nuestra bandera en la iglesia San Ramón
Para luego dirigirnos hacia nuestro local
Escúcheme bien no quiero banderas en las calles
Provocan manifestaciones patrióticas que ponen en peligro el orden público
Le doy mi palabra general que se hará en silencio
Tienen ustedes el permiso pero con la condición de que al conducir al banderas por las calles
El pueblo peruano no hará manifestación alguna de carácter patriótico
Que no haya aclamaciones ni vivas ni el más leve grito que signifique una provocación al ejército chileno
La bandera levantada muy arriba muy arriba avanzó lentamente por en medio de aquel océano de cabezas descubiertas …
Y pasó la bandera y detrás de ella como enorme escolta avanzó el pueblo entero
Y aquella procesión sin música ni aclamaciones siempre en silencio siempre majestuosa
Recorrió imponiendo respeto por los jirones más céntricos de la ciudad cautiva
Y ante aquel espectáculo a la vez sencillo y sublime tuve que apretar los ojos para contener las lágrimas
